Homework Expectations

Reading

Please listen to your child read their home reading book each night and ensure that their reading record is signed.

Spellings

Each Tuesday, new spellings will be given out for your child to learn. We recommend a 'little and often' approach to help learning. The spelling test will be on the following Monday.

Times-tables

In years 5 and 6, a secure understand of times tables underpins the majority of objectives covered in maths. A deep understanding of times tables is of a great importance. Like the reading, we recommend a 'little and often' approach to this.

Curriculum Information

In Autumn 1, we will be learning about the following:

Religious Education Ourselves - Created in the image and likeness of God.
RSHE Meet My Brain, God loves us in our changing and development
Maths Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, and Multiplication and Division.

Science Out of this world - Materials
History/Geography The Vikings - Were they raiders, traders or something else?
PE Swimming and Adventurous Activities
Computing Data and Information - Flat file databases
Art/DT Painting and mixed media: Portraits
Spanish Simple past tense sentences and describing myself.

 Useful Information

Children can bring in a water bottle to keep in class, which must be clearly labelled with your child's name on it. Please note disposable water bottles are not allowed in school. Juice, fizzy drinks, including Prime drinks, are not allowed in school.

Children can bring a small, healthy snack for morning break such as a piece of fruit, a box of raisins or a low sugar cereal bar. Sweets, chocolates and cakes are not allowed in school for break time snacks.

Your child will have the opportunity to change their books once a week. If they have finished the school book before then, they can of course read a book from home for pleasure. Please note in the reading journal these as well.
